I was in awe of sign language as a kid. The expressive nature of the communication, the depth of meaning, the authentic choices continue to captivate me. Becoming involved in the Deaf community and learning ASL provided me with an understanding of a rich, historical culture and intense pride.
Baby Fingers was inspired by my passion for ASL and music, for family communication and supporting the potential for ALL children to succeed in life, and by my own children beginning to sign as very young babies. The foundation was set by my undergraduate degree in music therapy and my graduate degree in Deaf education, enhanced by my years of experience as a teacher and therapist for children and families from all walks of life.
Our first informal class was at my home with a few of my friends and their babies in the late fall of 1999. Soon we branched out to rented space where my husband and I had attended Lamaze classes. Baby Fingers became an LLC on January 1st, 2000.
I’m so proud to be entering our 19th year and excited for what 2019 will bring. Doors are always opening – and we hope you’ll walk through to join us!
