At 10, I saw “Children of a Lesser God” on stage
And was transfixed by the beauty of sign
I learned of a culture not so different from mine
Felt their joy, contentment, and rage
At 16, I met a young boy who was Deaf
It was then I began to learn sign
His language was not so different than mine
But its beauty took away my breath
In my 20s I decided to dedicate
A life of studying music and sign
It led me to this career of mine
On family communication, I concentrate
As a parent I brought all my research to life
And my children started to sign
It led to this pride and joy of mine
Reducing frustration and strife
Sign language opened our eyes and strengthened our bond
Confusion cleared with a sign
We spoke from our hearts, through their hands and mine
To express what we felt and beyond
Join in our journey…come sing and sign…a Baby Fingers journey, yours and mine.
