At Baby Fingers, we offer Sign Language, Yoga, and Infant Massage – all designed for baby with grown up, and all incorporating music to some extent. Why? So many reasons that are wonderful both for now and down the road.
There are tremendous benefits for parent and baby alike when it comes to infant massage. It is relaxing for both the grown-up and the child, and provides an opportunity for intense bonding. While parents and caregivers are learning to understand and respond to their baby’s cues, confidence in their parenting skills develops and strengthens. At the same time, infants are benefiting from sensory stimulation, a boost in their immune system, improved skin condition and circulation, assistance in sleep and pain management, and so much more. Learning how to provide your baby with therapeutic touch can give you both an opportunity to cuddle more often, to relieve issues related to colic, and to truly bond.
In yoga with your little one, parents and caregivers will gain a greater understanding of baby’s or toddler’s amazing physical development. Take the opportunity to begin returning to your pre-baby body while helping baby develop more consistent sleeping patterns and increasing wakeful moments of contentment and joy. Yoga will help relieve stress and tension for you both, while strengthening and stabilizing the body’s core. As with massage, you’ll learn to understand and respond to your baby’s cues, solidifying your relationship and bond.
Signing together can promote family communication while enhancing motivation to speak, increasing IQ, improving vocabulary and literacy skills, decreasing frustration, refining motor coordination and solidifying your bond. Signing with your baby provides another reason to really look at each other during conversations, to see your baby’s reactions, and to learn more about what he or she truly desires. At Baby Fingers, we teach American Sign Language (ASL), so you’re also getting subtle exposure to another culture, and setting the foundation for later 2nd spoken language learning. For bilingual families, incorporating signs right away with both languages can help baby understand each language more completely, and begin to communicate much sooner. Watch in awe as your child discovers the world of language.
Our sign language classes are offered in a variety of locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. At the new Asphalt Green in Battery Park, we offer sign language, infant massage, and family yoga. Some families take all three, and the classes truly enhance one other. We welcome families to return to our classes for multiple sessions to solidify the learning, to keep up with your baby’s growth (physically, emotionally, intellectually), and to develop a stronger social network.
